A Pinion gear meshes with the ring gear, which is a larger gear with teeth arranged in a circular shape. The meshing of the pinion and ring gear allows torque transfer between them. In a Differential, the Pinion is responsible for transmitting torque from the driveshaft to the ring gear, which then distributes power to the left and right wheels. In a bevel gear system, the pinion is the smaller gear that meshes with a larger bevel gear. Bevel gears are used to transmit power between intersecting or non-parallel shafts.
