The Pump Drive Gear is typically a cylindrical gear with teeth on the outer circumference. The teeth on the gear mesh with the teeth on a mating gear, which is connected to the pump. As the engine rotates the pump drive gear, it transmits torque to the mating gear and subsequently to the pump.
