An Electric Starting Motor has a sturdy metal housing that protects the internal components from external elements and provides structural support. Field coils are mounted inside the housing and surround the armature. brushes maintain electrical contact with the rotating commutator and the commutator is a segmented copper cylinder mounted on the armature shaft.
