A Valve Stem Cotter, also known as a valve keeper, is a small metal component used in the Valve Train System of an internal combustion engine. It is typically made of steel or other durable materials and is used to hold the valve spring and valve stem together, preventing the valve from dropping into the combustion chamber during engine operation. It is installed on the valve stem and is held in place by the Valve Stem Cotter retainer, which is typically a clip or ring. The Cotter works in conjunction with other components in the valve train, such as the valve spring, rocker arm, and camshaft, to ensure proper valve operation.
